a-line skirt - reviews

Cozy, feminine, beautiful
I love this ... 3rd corduroy ... I've ordered. It is a summerweight - which means that it hangs nicely and you can still layer for extra warmth (i.e., tights or leggings). Also this ... looks sexy with boots even though it's conservatively cut (A line at knee). I wear it with the belt (nice double loops). I can't figure out why athleta puts drawstrings in these ... but it doesn't matter. I think the ... soft, feminine, and well made. Perfect for fall/winter. I may order in the maple color as well.

Versatile little ...
I wear this ... everywhere - lunch, church, dinner parties, you name it! The A line fit is comfy and flattering even thought I am only 5'3" - my husband always compliments me on it. It is still cold so I wear it with tights and tall boots. I have it in black and a dusty pink.

Cute ...
I am 5'5" 112#, 25" waist, 36" hips. I bought a size 2 because I wear leggings under my ... fall and was worried the ... would sit tight on my hips if I bought a 0. The ... fits over the leggings fine, but does cling a bit to the leggings while walking, so a silky lining would be nice. It is a little large in the waist and while the drawstring is a nice idea, once you tie it you have this lump at your waist from it being tied. But if you knot it to avoid the lump of a bow, then it's too hard to untie later. I think Athleta would do better to mimic the adjustable waist idea that some manufacturers put in children's clothing, rather than a drawstring. The ... flares out cute, I personally like the flounce. It makes it different from most of the other corduroy ... I've seen. It's a nice length. The material is lightweight, which makes it tend to wrinkle easily in the back after sitting. ... very cute ... running around town in and quite comfortable. I've gotten several compliments.

Great Gal About Town ...
I loved the Whenever Cord ... bought last season so much I ordered it in Grape Jam this season. What an awesome color! Much more magenta than it looks on my monitor, ... just love it. It'll provide a really nice pop of color in the dead of winter, worn with tights and boots. And a word on the stiffness of the fabric: the ... gets softer with multiple washings, ... more of an A line than appears in the photo. Looks good and is incredibly comfortable. Like you're not wearing anything at all. Highly recommended.

length not as reported
I just received my Whenever Cord ... mail today. I ordered a size 2 petite, and this was the correct size; I am about a 27" waist and 34" hips. The corduroy is a nice, soft cotton, and I love the waistband, which is lined with a pretty floral fabric. The problem, however, is the length. It works, but I was expecting -- per the site info -- the ... several inches longer, which I think I would prefer. I measured the length myself, and it is 16 and 1/4 inches long, not the 19" indicated on the site. This has happened over and over again; I don't understand how/why there can be such a discrepancy between the reported and the actual length. I do really like the ... otherwise, and the length, as I said, will work, but I had been hoping for something a little longer. Given the overall style of the ... think it would look better longer -- more like a long ... instead of tutu . . . and I hate to say it, but that's sort of what it reminds me of.

I like the summer weight ... better
This is a great versatile ... but the heavy cord fabric sort of sticks out from your body a fair bit, and since I have the summer one with the shorts underneath, I like that swishiness a bit more. But still, what do I expect with corduroy?? The charcoal is a great colour. You'd just better make sure you like the a line look. It's loose on my waist but the hips are good and the drawstring helps.

underimpressed, ... hoping for the best
The fabric is velvety to the touch, ... does not have a drapey weight as the picture indicates - it is thin and a bit stiff, so where the kick pleats are sewn in it kind of sticks out in space, rather than gently draping as a ... should. I washed it in hopes it would soften a bit, ... so far it hasn't. I'd feel bad sending it back at this point, so will keep washing it to soften it up. The back welted pockets are lined with a nylon mesh, and the pockets are just large enough to accomodate credit card sized objects. The cotton lining sewn into the waist is a nice touch. For the price of this ... expected to be completely satisfied, and I am not, ... should have heeded some of the other reviews.

Slimming; Roomy
First and foremost, I found the fit of this ... very slimming. It was bigger than expected it to be, though. I take an 8 but have gained a lot this year (143+) and never know if an 8 will fit, but I found this one to be plenty big. I agree with others about the high rise and large waist; it has a tendency to ride up and shift around as a result. It does have a waist draw string, but it's sort of useless as it can't counteract the largeness of the waist. The fine whale cord is nearly like a velvet; I found the material and make high quality and I like the length and the a line. It's comfortable but not quite super comfortable as I can't seem to stop adjusting the waist area. The charcoal was pretty.

Love the idea, but the execution could have been better
I love the idea of the cord ... more A line shape. Perfect to go with boots and sweaters. However, when I received it, I was somewhat disappointed. I ordered a 12 (which would have been true to the size chart) and a 10 (which actually fit better). I have a curvy figure, and the tight at the top and flare out at the bottom was not the most flattering thing on me. The flare is too much flare, the tight at the top was do able though, even in the smaller size. The other annoying thing was the snaps in the front. They made the ... pooch out in the front when worn with tops/sweater that were even remotely form fitting. It would have been much nicer if it had a hook/eye closure and zipper on the side seam. The ... would lay much nicer then. So, even though it's not perfect, I will keep it as I'm desperate for a fall cord ... But beware, it's not as cute as it looks on the model!

A disappointment
A bit disappointing. The fabric is quite stiff and so the ... does not flow or lay well. IT doesn't drape well, ... holds a stiff shape around me. Not so much fun to wear because of this factor. OTherwise, love the cut and lines, fits well. Too bad about the fabric though.

Vanity sizing is ridiculous, cord is cheap and stiff.
At 5', 105, and not curvy, I definitely qualify as "petite." This summer, when I wanted to buy a Wherever Skort (the lighter, non ribbed version of this ... size 2P was out in the color I wanted, so being impatient, I bought the regular zero. It was a little long, and a little loose around the waist, ... otherwise ok. And I loved it! So when the weather cooled off, I decided to order the Whenever for fall. This time, I got what I thought would be the "perfect" size-- the 2P. It really isn't any shorter than the 0R, ... waist is HUGE! I could stick an entire fist between my stomach and the waistband! I could practically pull it off my hips while it was still buttoned! How can a size 2 be so large? And for that matter, in a clothing line geared toward active women, why isn't there a 0P? Gap has an entire range of 0 clothes, so why doesn't it's subsidiary? Next issue: fabric quality. I would have just exchanged it for a 0R, ... coduroy was thin and stiff and picked up every single dust mote floating in the air. Considering the price and style, I would have expected a less stiff fabric that actually moved when I moved. Guess I'll just have to wait for warm weather again and stick with the "Wherever." The discrepancy in quality is a bummer.
