Bring Back the 9 inch Dipper Short!!!
The 9 inch shorts are the perfect length! I am 6' 1', 175 pounds and I am so sad they are no longer availible! The 5 inch shorts are just too short, at 44 years old I am not comfortable in short shorts. The 12 inch shorts are too long!! Had I any idea these perfect shorts would become extinct I would have bought 2 in every color! Please bring back the 9 inch Dipper Shorts!!

Best ... Ever!
This is my second pair of dipper ... LOVE them. I also have the 12 inch inseam but ordered the 9" ones for a younger look. I am an active 33 year old mom that doesn't like short ... any more. I have been a size 8 but I felt these ran small in the hips/rear and rise, so had to exchange for next size up, a 10. I wear a 10 in the Athleta stretch chinos and an 8 in the Vista pant. I am 6'2" and 145 pounds. My favorite part about these ... sit down they stretch a little bit so the ... don't ride way up on my thigh. These are totally comfy to hang on on the floor or grass, where I spend a lot of time with my kids. I did find the waist a little bit too loose but the drawstring fixes it.

I would wear these ... 365 days of the year but...
I bought (2) 9" dipper ... (1) 5" dipper short. The stretch in the fabric is what makes these ... absolutely comfortable to wear. My occupation doesn't allow me to wear ... every day but if I could, these would be my first choice!

Great fit
Love these shorts. The fit is great - rise not to high or low. Plus the little snap in the back of the shorts help give a nice shape to your rear. Nice everyday shorts which are flattering, comfortable - but don't look like "mom" shorts.

comfortable
These ... very comfortable and versatile. I wouldn't wear them for running bc of the length but they are a great active wear short. The ... length was a little longer than I was expecting but not so long that it looks silly. The two pockets in the back have snaps to hold the flaps down - they haven't curled yet (after 3 washes) so I'm hoping that is a good sign. I have ... (other brands) that the flap curls and looks silly unless I lug out the iron to iron them down. Also, as with many of the items I buy at Athleta, they have that funny loop/snap in the back of the pants near the belt loops that does cause a bit of a bump when I put my shirt over it - I'm not sure why the company keeps putting that extra "signature" piece on their ... but it's the one thing that I wish wasn't there. I'm 5'3, 140 and purchased a size 8, they look great and fit well.

great short!
I love the fit and weight of these ... Ordered them for an upcoming vacation to warmer weather and will be great for that trip. They will also be very comfortable to travel in. They fit very well with a great length, not too long and not too short. I am 5'5", 138 lbs. and ordered the size 6. They are perfect. I have the "saddle bag" issue and they skim that area very well and do not emphasize anything. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because when they came, the snap in the back (decorative loop type piece) had broken off. [...] Instead, I remembered reviews that people did not care for that decoration anyway and chose to take it off. The metal loop comes right off the belt loop since it has a small opening that can slide right off. The actual fabric "loop" is stiched on independantly from the stitching that holds the ... together and is able to be removed without damaging the ... think I will like it much better with out this loop anyway. I would buy this short again.

my new go to shorts
3 things: (1) If this is your first pair of not short-shorts, give them a chance. Though they have a different "look", young people wear these nowadays too, and they are SO much cuter in the sitting position than short shorts (no leg fat spillage) and considerably more modest. (2) If you have a rear end, don't freak when you see yourself. Generally people with a rear look better in skirts than in shorts - but if you're gonna wear shorts, then modest ones like these are a great way to go. (3) Again, if you have a rear, I recommend rounding up on the size - you'll like the way they look. ... unlike expensive fancy jeans, shouldn't be tight in the butt.
Great Shorts, but Snap Problems!
First, let me say I love the shorts! Finally found a fit that flatters and is super comfy. Unfortunately, I have experienced snap breakage on two separate pairs of shorts. The first pair snagged on a chair back at a restaurant the first time I wore them. I planned on sucking it up since I loved the shorts so much. Then I lost the snap off the second pair while I was vacuuming a few days ago. No contact there, so its a mystery why it popped off! I'm glad I am not the only reviewer experiencing this problem with the 9" shorts. These are not cheap shorts, so I am less forgiving of repeat quality issues, [...] thus the 1 star. Pity!
